As essential oils are highly concentrated and potent, they should not be applied directly to your hair or scalp but be first mixed with a base oil like olive, coconut, flaxseed or sunflower oil. They can also be mixed with ghee or diluted with some herbal rinse or floral water.

It is recommended to blend 20-60 drops of essential oils into a 100 ml base oil by starting with the minimum amount and increasing as required. The blend should then be massaged into your hair and scalp and left for an hour. For added conditioning, you can leave the mixture overnight as well. Next, just simply wash out the application with shampoo and let your hair dry naturally.

Essential oils can also be used as a hair rinse by mixing 10-20 drops of the oil in a cup of herbal rinse or final rinse.
