Chamomile

Chamomile oil is extracted from the leaves of the chamomile plant using steam distillation.

There are two varieties of the oil- Roman and German where both have a sweet, crisp and light fragrance.

  • Roman chamomile helps calms down anger and irritation especially in small children
  • German chamomile cures digestive and urinary infections in adults.

While they might have some different uses, both oils are helpful in reducing blood pressure, and swollen blood vessels.

Benefits in Common

The two oils offer many other similar benefits. For example, both have good antiseptic and antibiotic properties, which is why they are effective for treating bacterial and fungal infections. They also have good vermifuge agents, which helps kill intestinal worms as well as head lice and mites when applied to hair.

Boost your mood

Chamomile oil is helpful in fighting depression by replacing sad, depressed and sluggish feelings with an induced sense of happiness. You can find some relief and boost your mood just by smelling the oil.

Other benefits are:

  • Improving digestion by promoting secretion of digestive juices
  • Treating rheumatism by stimulating circulation and detoxifying the blood
  • Reducing scars, marks, and spots on the face and skin
  • Protecting wounds, cuts and bruises from possible infection
  • Pain relief through its analgesic properties

WARNING! Though the oil offers many health benefits, it’s not suggested to be used by pregnant or breastfeeding women. Roman chamomile is especially dangerous during pregnancy as it can induce a miscarriage and uterine contractions.

People allergic to ragweed should also refrain from using the oil.
